About Our Program
PLI’s Women’s Program helps immigrant and refugee women gain the confidence and independence they need to integrate into the U.S. English classes are complete with a tea-time during class to foster community and conversation. PLI’s ESL program is unique in that it recognizes that some of our students are not ready for the first level of ESL taught in other programs. Some women have little or no literacy skills even in their own languages. We strive to meet them where they are, providing a pre-literacy, level 0, class. All of our classes focus on improving literacy and conversation skills, spurring women on to continue their education, get jobs, and giving them the skills to speak with their child’s teacher or make a doctor’s appointment on their own.
