Providing trauma-informed care for young children and preparing them for school
Child Development
During our women's ESL classes, we provide childcare for the preschool-aged children of our ESL students. Our childcare teachers are trained in trauma-informed care to respond to the unique needs of immigrant and refugee families. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow in independence. Our program supports linguistic, cognitive, physical, emotional and social development, with the goal of preparing children for primary school.
Childcare is available only to our ESL students’ children and as spots are available.

PLI strategically employs immigrants and refugees and provides professional development in early childhood education and English. Our diverse childcare staff come from many countries and speak at least 9 languages. We connect our staff with a third-party company so they can work towards earning the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential while getting continual on the job experience. Our desire is to empower our employees for current and future career advancement.

PLI has had a positive impact on my wife and daughter. My wife was a teacher in Afghanistan. She has an associates degree, but here she thought she wouldn’t be able to do anything. The language and culture is so different. She was upset and hopeless. But, when she came to PLI and started her job as a childcare teacher, that changed. She also made friends from many countries. She is financially independent. It helped us a lot to have a normal life in the US.
