Sarma Velamuri

Dr.Sarma N. Velamuri, M.D. is an Internal Medicine & Emergency Room physician who has served on process improvement, health informatics, and patient safety committees at numerous large hospitals in and around the greater Houston area.  He has worked as a hospitalist taking care of transplant patients for heart, lung, liver, and prosthetic hearts in the world’s largest medical center in Houston, and currently works as a physician in freestanding Emergency Rooms.

He has been a guest speaker for various professional organizations, including the Mayo Clinic’s AI Platform Conference, the Mayo Clinic’s Nursing & AI conference, the Texas State Bar, the Great Rift Valley Venture Summit, and the inaugural FBI Biotechnology Security Summit. Most recently, Dr. Velamuri started and exited a biotechnology company that has built proprietary AI algorithms for disease detection and treatment that has serving over 1 million people to date. He has co-authored and published a textbook chapter on AI in medicine, apart from other peer-reviewed articles on AI in medicine, and his work has been prominently featured. He holds 7 patents in the artificial intelligence field. 
 

Sarma mentors and advises companies and healthcare systems in the US and internationally, apart from serving on non-profit boards. He recently served on the board for the Risen Jesus Ministry with Dr.Mike Licona before joining the board at PLI. He is driven to bring innovation to healthcare to eliminate unnecessary human suffering through his work as an ER doctor as part of his service to the Kingdom of Heaven.  

 

Dr.Velamuri completed medical school at the St.Petersburg Medical University of Pavlov and an Internal Medicine residency at BCM Houston. He lives in Houston with his wife and three children, speaks 5 languages, is interested in hiking, sailing, golf, cooking, is an avid reader, and is currently working on his first book on how he was pursued by Jesus and went from being a Hindu to becoming a Christian.
